Perkins, revered for his generosity and support in his community, tragically met his end over a dispute involving a bar tab and pizza, prompting a quest for justice.

In connection with the shooting death of Dexter Perkins, Michael Freund, a 49-year-old from Aurora, stands accused of first-degree murder. The fatal altercation occurred on a Friday morning outside Rosie O’Reilly’s bar in unincorporated Wheaton.

responded to a gunfire complaint around 8:40 a.m. at 0N131 Gary Ave., finding Perkins deceased at the scene. Video evidence captured an altercation between two men, presumed to be Perkins and Freund, escalating to gunfire after Freund fired warning shots into the air.

Prosecutors allege that Perkins, while at the bar, engaged in a dispute that escalated as he purchased drinks for patrons. Later, outside on the deck, a confrontation ensued, leading to a physical altercation between Perkins and one of the men present.

Freund, purportedly attempting to halt the altercation, discharged warning rounds before ultimately shooting Perkins multiple times, resulting in his tragic death.

Freund is scheduled for an arraignment on January 18, marking the next legal phase in this distressing case.
