What is your favorite correlation on the slate and why?
Notorious: + – This won’t be a contrarian stack, but that doesn’t mean we can’t use it in tournaments. We just have to get unique with how we build around it. Fields has averaged just under 50 rushing yards per game this season and has at least 1 passing touchdown in 3 of the last 4 games. His favorite target this season has been Moore, who has averaged over 20 fantasy points per game with Fields in the lineup. They should feast on a Cardinals defense that is 31st in DVOA against the pass and bottom 10 in fantasy points allowed to both quarterbacks and wide receivers.
squirrelpatrol: + – This will be an expensive correlation, but I may just force it into some lineups and take whatever value I can get. The Dallas – Miami game has the highest total on the slate, yet it isn’t seeing the ownership we would expect because of pricing. At lower ownership, I’ll gladly take Mostert, who has seven touchdowns in his last four games, and Lamb, who has nine touchdowns in his last eight games. This may mean spending down at QB and other positions, but I’ll gladly pair these two as a mini-stack with a cheaper game stack.
Krayton: + – I have a lot of interest in Jefferson in a home matchup against Detroit where the Vikings are underdogs and should be throwing the ball often. If I have interest in Jefferson, I have interest in Mullens, as he provides a nice value for us at QB, which will allow us to spend up at another position. My early builds with Mullens + Jefferson also allow me to get another secondary stack, such as + De’Von Achane or + .
ebeimfohr: + – The Titans have officially been eliminated from the playoffs and have been very banged up on defense, which is perfect timing for Geno to come back and help push the Seahawks to the playoffs. The weirdness of the last couple of weeks is giving us the Seattle stack at a price that’s far too cheap for their talent as well as this matchup. Even more, the field is not gravitating here with too much ownership. Metcalf is due for another big game, as he’s 6th in the NFL in end-zone targets, 6th in red-zone targets, and 7th in air yard share, but he just hasn’t been able to connect as often this season.
Stevietpfl: + – For a game with a 44.5 total, it’s not getting a ton of projected ownership. Arthur Smith is desperate to win the last 3 games of the season and will turn to Heinicke at quarterback against the Colts. I’m hoping with Heinicke at quarterback, we see London more involved in the offense this week. He continues to win individual matchups, but the quarterback play has been poor. London missed the Week 9 game with Heinicke at quarterback, but Heinicke threw the ball 38 times for 268 yards against the Vikings. At these prices, it opens up the rest of my lineup.
Bobby Gomes: + + Amon-Ra St. Brown – The DET / MIN game has the 2nd-highest total (47.5) on the slate with a close spread (Lions -3.5). Mullens is cheap, JJ is overdue for a JJ game, and St. Brown has been among the league’s safest DFS WRs all season. This trio could generate upwards of 75-80 fantasy points, and we can easily jam them in together. JJ is a cash game fixture, but St.Brown is coming in around 10% pOWN%.
Who’s your top contrarian play on the board (below 10% pOWN%) and why?
Notorious: – He might get some steam as we get closer to lock, but we currently have his ownership projection at sub-10%. You might think the Panthers have nothing to play for, but them finishing with the worst record is their nightmare scenario. They don’t own their 1st-round pick. They will do everything in their power to win over the next three weeks. Hubbard has quietly racked up 25, 24, and 24 touches over the last 3 games. This week, he draws a home matchup against the Packers, who are 26th in DVOA against the run and 23rd in fantasy points allowed to running backs.
squirrelpatrol: – might see outsized ownership at the WR position while gains much of the TE ownership, and that could leave Hockenson underowned despite playing at home in the game with the second-highest total on the slate. Hockenson has at least 9.5 DK points in 13 of 14 games this season. We currently have only eight TEs on the slate projected above that mark this week.
Krayton: De’Von Achane – Achane has carried a questionable tag most of the week, and most DFS players will click on before Achane, as Mostert has 7 TDs in the last 4 games. Achane could easily score a TD or two, and I love getting him at low projected ownership in the game that has the highest total. He has shown he can do major damage, even with limited rushing attempts, so I like a guy with his upside in GPPs.
ebeimfohr: – The Panthers have made the change to an offense centered around Chuba in their last 3 games, which has culminated in 70 carries for 278 yards and 2 TDs in that span. He’s also typically the team’s hurry-up / 2-minute back, which offers him some pass-catching upside. When you put that profile up against one of the worst run defenses in the entire league (the Packers), you get a huge-upside RB at a cheap price and less ownership than some of the heavy chalk like Ty Chandler.
Stevietpfl: – Hubbard has at least 22 caries and 87 rushing yards in 3 straight games with Chris Tabor as coach. He had at 65% snap share in Tabor’s first game (against Tampa), but he’s been over 70% in each of the last 2 games. He also has 12 red-zone carries in his last 3 games. Green Bay ranks 26th in DVOA against the run this season. They’re allowing 139 rushing yards per game, which is the 3rd-most in the NFL. Hubbard is one of my favorite plays this weekend, and I’m glad he’s going overlooked.
Bobby Gomes: Amon Ra St. Brown – We have been reliant on St. Brown all season, and it just doesn’t make sense to stop in Week 16 when his projected ownership is sub-10% in a game that has the 2nd-highest total. His ceiling, floor, FPTS projection, and Smash% are all top 4 this week at his position.
What is your preferred tournament format (e.g. large-field, single-entry) to play this week? How do you plan to beat that field of opponents? What tactic or strategy will set you apart?
Notorious: My preferred contests are small-field and single-entry tournaments. Even though the + stack is going to be popular, I will still be overweight on it. With out for the Cardinals, we might see a concentrated passing attack, so I’ll be looking to bring back my Chicago stack with or . I also plan to be overweight on some contrarian options like , , , and .
squirrelpatrol: I’ll play the largest-field contests with a goal of being overweight on players in the higher-total, lower-owned games (like DAL / MIA) and pairing those players with correlated stacks from the lower-owned, lower-total games (like WAS / NYJ and CLE / HOU). I think ownership will end up consolidating around some of the other games that have an equal or lower chance of hitting for a big score.
Krayton: I will be playing single-entry tournaments and playing between 3-5 total lineups. I will be focused on the + stack and the + stack, pair those with a secondary stack, and then mix in guys like , De’Von Achane, , , and .
ebeimfohr: As is typically the case, I will be primarily focusing on smaller-field tournaments. With a smaller slate this week due to the holidays, we have a slightly more limited player pool, which means I’ll be looking to find one or two powerful leverage points in tournaments off of a couple of very chalky pieces.
Stevietpfl: I will focus on single-entry and 20-entry max contests. I’m going to spend down at quarterback. As much as I like and , I like the builds with the cheaper quarterbacks. Most of the cheap quarterbacks have cheap run-back options, which allows an expensive secondary game stack.
Bobby Gomes: MME – My preferred format is large-field MME tournaments. This week, I will be overweight on the DET / MIN game and the DAL / MIA game. These two games present the highest totals on the main slate. I will be game stacking them both, using a couple pieces from each team. I think using and in some lineups will get me the exposure and massive upside while being different. Both are sitting around 5% pOWN%, and both are also strong pivots off and .
What is your hot take of the slate?
Notorious: finishes with 10+ receptions and 100+ receiving yards.
squirrelpatrol: throws for 300 yards against the Commanders.
Krayton: De’von Achane scores 3 TDs.
ebeimfohr: has 150 yards and 2 TDs.
Stevietpfl: goes for 150+ yards and 2 touchdowns.
Bobby Gomes: and Amon-Ra St. Brown have 250+ receiving yards combined.
